Beginner Beading - Where to start? Kits?

Looking to start making some bead jewelry! Dont know where to start... and I have no supplies + a low budget. (at the moment, it seems a little pricey to buy everything from string, various tubes of different colors of beads, clasps, tools, etc)
So instead, I'm thinking of picking up a simple beading kit... does that sound like a good place to start? I was looking at the Crystazzi kits - like this: http://www.cousin.com/images/stories/graphics/programs/36900.jpg
What do you guys think? (Is it worth it? The kit is about $27... but theres always the weekly coupon ) or should i take a different approach to beginning beading... or any other kits you'd recommend?
Thanks!!

Hi,
You can buy inexpensive kits from Michael's. Also another place to get kits is Ebay.
Are you looking to learn to string, or more into bead weaving? I love bead weaving and mostly do the Peyote stitch.

I agree with Adele12571.
That would be a good approach if that is what you are looking for.
hope that this helps!

There are a lot of posts on this board about tools & supplies. It also depends on what kind of jewelry you want to make.
Take a little time, maybe investigate some books at the library about different beading techniques. Do some searches on this board, too.
Then you'll know if you want to start with one of those kits, or try a different style.
Good luck!

Beading can be very pricey so I suggest that you stay with seed bead projects for now. Learn the basics peyote, brick, herringbone etc. After you practice and get comfortable with those then go to the projects. You can really make some nice peices with those patterns. Go online and type in free jewelry patterns to get a start on patterns. You can really make some cool patterns with herringbone. I sold a herringbone bracelet made with cube beads for $49. Good luck from fancyjo

I do not advise a kit. Most often they contain poor quality materials like plastic beads or metal with lead however, I'm sure there are kits that do have better quality components. You'll have to look it over. I do not shop kits. I get my supplies at a local professional bead supply store or I get them online from various wholesale bead suppliers.
The point being why put time into creating something made with really cheap beads like plastic. The color will wear off and in one week. You will be dissatisfied with the piece, and buyers remorse sets in. I would rather you start off on the right foot because beading is fun!
Do this if you are not sure of the kit. Look online for simple examples of jewelry that you want to learn. Make a list of the supplies. Remember the KISS principal {Keep It Simple Silly}
I am available to answer questions that you have or I can help you put together any piece that you'd like.
Best Regards,

I'm a beginner too and have started off with the kits. Yes, the materials aren't as nice or of high quality, but they work when you're trying to learn. You're going to make mistakes and have to take things apart and start over. That's how you learn. Why start out buying the more expensive materials before you've learned this new skill? When I get good at putting the stuff together then I'll buy sterling silver, and crystals, and vintage beads, etc. Just my opinion, good luck!

I am new also and I am going to take your advice and get the kits before getting the more costly items. Thanks I found the answer before I asked the question.
